Designed for showcasing, this system measures methane in a controlled cell with high concentrations, enabling clear demonstrations of its capabilities compared to traditional sensors like electroluminescence or chemiluminescence. Absorption spectroscopy offers fast, continuous response, no oxygen dependence, and resilience in harsh environments.
The demonstrator uses a single-frequency 3 µm nanoplus laser for precise methane detection, thanks to its high spectral purity, narrow linewidth, and stable single-mode operation.
A custom 3.3 µm detector with an interference filter and three-stage TEC measures methane absorption accurately. RedWave’s Universal Platform, featuring an FPGA-driven high-speed ADC/DAC and pressure controller, ensures real-time data processing. Laser controllers can be swapped for different gases and lasers as needed.
Running on Linux with extensive libraries, the system simplifies OEM integration, offering seamless control and analysis for real gas applications.
Possible Applications:
1. Environmental Monitoring: Detecting methane emissions in controlled environments or industrial settings, contributing to efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
2. Industrial Leak Detection: Identifying leaks in pipelines or equipment where methane gas is used or stored.
3. Research & Development: A tool for developing advanced methane sensors and improving gas detection technologies.
4. Energy Sector: Monitoring methane levels in natural gas production or storage facilities for safety and efficiency improvements.
